A Joyful Noise

new year’s eve

Happy New Year 2020

January 1, 2020 by Melodye Shore

We meditated by the water’s edge, saying goodbye to 2019 and inviting goodness and light into the New Year.

We wrote our intentions in the sand with driftwood and allowed the incoming waves to wash them out to sea.

Three close friends, basking in the sunshine and enjoying each other’s company.

Two small girls walked past, holding their young mother’s hands. They glanced back at us, watching our every move.

The littlest one caught my gaze. I smiled and then added a rose from my garden to the words I’d etched in the sand.

She grinned, grabbed a stick of her own, and lifted it overhead. An unspoken gesture of solidarity among kindreds.

When we left the beach a while later, she was writing her own story into the sand.

Singular events, brimming with joy and sprinkled with magic. This is what we live for. And if we’re lucky enough, we have friends and loved ones with whom to share them.

Happy New Year, everybody! Wishing you every goodness in the now, and every good thing on the horizon.

All signs point to…2014

December 31, 2013 by Melodye Shore

2014 is just hours away, can you believe it? Last year had more than its share of ups and downs, but the New Year looks promising already. For instance: We're anticipating something wonderful on the home front!  I'm thrilled beyond words and…sworn to secrecy, at least for now. I'm really good at staying mum, so don't try to pry it out of me. But when the time is right, cue the trumpets and party hats! You'll hear all about it, I assure you.

First things first, though. It's time to ring in the new year!

Here at Joyful Noise, we're very fond of traditions. Hence, the annual pre-New Year's Eve party, where we gather around the orbital oracle, aka Magic 8-Ball, and ask our most pressing questions about the future. Everyone's invited; come as you are, and bring your friends!

Ready to shake things up a bit? The Magic 8-Ball is ready, whenever you are! The rules, they are simple:

  1. DO address the Magic 8-Ball with all due respect ("Oh Magic 8-Ball…" or something similar).
  2. DO ask Yes/No questions. (No long-winded questions/answers, sorry! That's not how the Magic 8-Ball rolls.)
  3. DO concentrate as you click on the "post comment" button.
  4. DO ask as many questions as you'd like, but enter them as separate comments.
  5. DON'T be deterred if the Magic 8-Ball tells you to ASK AGAIN LATER. Persist & prevail!
  6. While you're waiting for the Magic 8-Ball's 2014 predictions, take a quick glance in the rear view mirror. What did you ask the Magic 8-Ball on New Year's Eve 2012, and how accurate were its answers?
  7. DON'T take the Magic 8-Ball's answers too seriously. It's a party game, not gospel truth.
What's in the cards for us this coming year? You ask, the 8-Ball answers…

All signs point to…

2013–is this your lucky year, or what? No one knows for certain, of course, but it's fun to peek into the crystal ball, and–as per our annual tradition–to consult the Orbital Oracle, aka the Magic 8-Ball.

The Magic 8-ball is one of the most powerful ways to connect with our future available to humankind. It allows us to view the world from a 360-degree perspective, to peer into our futures via the watery portal at the top. Aside from its mystical influences, it infuses our lives with vitality, invokes our intuitive abilities, and invites us to imagine the vast possibilities for creating peace on earth and perfect manuscripts, oh tidings of comfort and joy.

Magic 8-ball = a fun party game. The rules, they are simple:

  1. DO address the Magic 8-Ball with all due respect ("Oh Magic 8-Ball…" or something similar).
  2. DO sk Yes/No questions.
  6. While you're waiting for the Magic 8-Ball's 2013 predictions take a quick glance in the rear view mirror. What did you ask the Magic 8-Ball on New Year's Eve 2011, and how accurate were its answers?
  7. DON'T take the Magic 8-Ball's answers too seriously. It's a party game, not Gospel truth.
What's in the cards for us this coming year? You ask, the 8-Ball answers.

2012: All Signs Point to…

December 31, 2011 by Melodye Shore
It's New Year's Eve again, and you know what that means: Time to consult that orbital oracle, the Magic 8-ball!

Okay, maybe that's a wee bit hyperbolic. How's this: Magic 8-ball = a fun party game. You set the boundaries with the questions you ask, and I promise not to cheat in relating its answers.

The rules, they are simple:

  1. DO address the Magic 8-Ball with all due respect ("Oh Magic 8-Ball…" or something similar).
  2. DO submit Yes/No questions.
  3. DO concentrate as you click on the "post comment" button.
  4. DO ask as many questions as you'd like, but enter them as separate comments.
  5. DON'T be deterred if the Magic 8-Ball tells you to ASK AGAIN LATER.
  6. While you're waiting for the Magic 8-Ball's 2011 predictions, take a quick glance in the rear view mirror. What did you ask the Magic 8-Ball on New Year's Eve 2010, and how accurate were its answers?
  7. DON'T take the Magic 8-Ball too seriously, but please accept my sincere wishes for the happiest New Year ever!
What does 2012 hold in store for us? Queue up your questions for the Magic 8-ball!

All signs point to…

December 31, 2008 by Melodye Shore

Whew, I’ve been writing my heart out these past few weeks! I’ve written lots of pages and chapters, and I’m getting ever closer to The End. But I’m taking a break for New Year’s Eve–it’s party time, don’t you think?

I’m planning to continue my 2008 theme into the new year, but I’m adding another one for 2009. More on that when New Year’s Day actually arrives! But while we’re ringing out the old year, I thought it might be fun to make some predictions about next year, courtesy of my new Magic 8-Ball.

Go ahead: Offer up your wildest wonderings to the Magic 8-Ball’s discerning powers! Write your question in the comments section, and I’ll post the answer exactly as it appears in the Magic 8-Ball’s blue Window of Fate.

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! I’m predicting 2009 will be our best year yet!
