• I shudder at the mere mention of jello molds! I’ve often wondered if people truly believed they were tasty. The jiggly stuff alone was hard for me to swallow, but when you add in vegetables and whatnot… *gags*

  1. Re: Birds Eye Jellied Pea Salad

When I was a kid I loved my Aunt Priscilla’s salad, which was lemon jello cut with vinegar also, which changes the taste, and filled up with sliced pimento and celery.
    I have taste now, luckily.
The whole page made me laugh out loud. Thanks.

Hee! Your Aunt Pricella’s salad recipe sounds too horrible for words–no offense! But I’m sure it was delicious (at least to you, at that time). Interesting, how our taste buds evolve. Some of it’s due to cultural influences, no doubt. And maturity plays a part, I’m guessing. But in the end…as “they” say, there’s no accounting for personal taste. 😉

  2. The second recipe actually looks pretty good to me. If it had tuna fish and noodles in it, it would be something like what I used to eat as a kid. Ahh, memories.

    • Yeah, tuna noodle casserole’s okay. Not great, but it’s a serviceable meal…reminds me of oh-so-many Church Suppers past. But the second recipe’s a severely stripped-down version of my own memories, too.

    • The second recipe is rather like the green bean casseroles some people serve at Thanksgiving, I think. Not my favorite, but it’s a stand-by recipe that some people love, God bless ’em.

Still…I’m not sure that anyone serves jello salads anymore.

    • Ugh is right! Can you just imagine how horrible you’d feel if someone actually served that up at dinner??

I’ve been missing you, too, Lorraine. Lisa’s entry yesterday threw me for a loop. *weeps* I posted something about our lovely lunch in Portland on my blog entry this morning. I found comfort in seeing your beautiful, smiling face again…wishing we could be together!
