I'm not a hoarder, mind you; still, I've surrounded myself with stuff. But I've come to realize that those things can (and oftentimes do) become more precious than whatever it is they represent. Tangible objects though they may be, they sneak into your spiritual nooks and crannies, too–keeping you stuck in the past or present, and squeezing you into ever-smaller spaces. So during this past year, I've been reducing the clutter. Little by little, I'm whittling my collections down to their essence, and in doing so, I'm (re)discovering the reasons they caught my eye in the first place. I'm liking the effects: I breathe easier, and I have more passageways in my home (my life), in which to expand and grow.
So on this Thankful Thursday (serendipitously, Thanksgiving) I'm grateful for all I have and all that will be…for the abundance in my life, and for the blessings that come of letting go.
Whittling down your collections can make you appreciate your favourite items more. When we moved to a smaller space, we kept only the best things. They stand out more now that they’re not hidden by the clutter of the less special things.
Happy Thanksgiving, Melodye!
I like the way you framed this, Barb. As I dig deeper (and toss more items) I’ll try to remember it.
Happy Thanksgiving, Melodye 🙂 I hope it’s filled with many joys in letting go and knowing just when to hold on!
Thanks, Robin. I confess to feeling a little angsty while sorting through my stuff. But when I share my “treasures” with others — and afterward, can see a clear, clean space where there once was clutter–I feel enormous joy.
Hope your Thanksgiving was delicious in every possible way. xo
Grateful for all your lovely, thoughtful posts, Melodye… today and always. xo
I’m grateful for our steadfast friendship, and for your companionship on this journey. xoxo
I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving with your loved ones, my friend. May it be a day of love and laughter… and good eats! Happy Turkey Day!
I started the day with a yoga class–a great way to center myself on what’s typically a crazy-busy day. And equally important, it helped me stay mindful of my many blessings (your friendship, included).
How was YOUR day??
I’m not a huge fan of the culling process itself, but I’m liking the results.
Hope you’re enjoying a relaxing, rejuvinating holiday weekend. xoxo
