• Happy Hummingbird Day to you, too, Tracy!

      Lots of sunshine here, and tons of orioles & finches at the feeders. And–as was befitting the day–lots of hummingbirds, flitting among the ficus and fuschias in our backyard. 🙂

  1. Happy National Hummingbird Day, Melodye!

    I think you should write a non-fiction coffee-table book about the bittersweet adventures you had as Tama’s and Itzel’s godmother. 🙂

    • Thanks, Barb! Hope your day was shimmery, too!

      I think at some point I may have to write that book. Believe you me, it’s crossed my mind more than once. 🙂

    • That’s a very special memory, Christine. Thanks for sharing it with me. Hummingbirds are relatively common here, so I’m imagining you sense her presence quite often. 🙂

      Wondering…were you able to add to your home any pieces of her collection?

      • My sister saw one at her place today. :>) They like her hibiscus bush.

        Yes, I’ve got a few things, like a hummingbird sweatshirt that my mom used to wear, and a realistic-looking figurine on the mantel.

    • I adore them, but in truth, I believe they belong to everyone who reads my blog. We followed them together from the day I first spied their nest (they were eggs at the time), through to the naming of the hatchlings, and on to the point where….well, maybe you’d like to see/read the posts for yourself. I took lots of pictures! To view them in sequence,

      1) Go here: http://newport2newport.livejournal.com/tag/hummingbird%20hatchlings

      2) Scroll down to the bottom of the page;
      3) Hit the “earlier” link in the “Navigation” square at the bottom, and then
      4) Scroll down until you see the first entry (Feb 8, at the bottom). Enjoy!

    • It definitely was a day worth celebrating–for me, and for the hummingbirds that flitted through our backyard garden, clicking and whirring as they sipped at the feeders. 🙂 Hope yours was wonderful, too!

    • Pure magic, weren’t they? I get all misty-eyed (but with a smile on my face) whenever I see their pictures.

      What’s it like in your neck of the woods, PapaDan? Are you living in a dust bowl about now? I’ll bet the birdies miss their rainshower baths.

      • It sure is dry here. Only 1.49 inch of rain since january 1st. Our birds just get down in the dirt and clean themselves with the dirt. Strange but true. yesterday a tree and a fire hydrant were fighting over a dog.. LOL. I’m just enjoying retirement and soaking up the beauty of mother nature even in this dry thirsty land.

  2. Oh!!!! I have never seen baby hummingbirds and you have a nest! They are so precious, so packed in that tiny little nest. I hope you save the nest when they leave. It should be made of cobwebs and fine grasses and moss.
