I’ve been tagged to reveal a few secrets about moi. Okay, I’m game. Here are nine things you may not know about Melodye, aka Mom.
-
When my second son was born, the doctor said, “It’s a boy!” But I wanted a little girl, so I said, “Sh*t!” One look at my beautiful baby, though, and I was smitten. This memory serves as a reminder – as if I needed one – that I’m anything but perfect.
-
I pretended I was mad, but I loved it when my kids would shuffle into my bedroom in their footed pajamas and prop my eyes open with their tiny thumbs and forefingers. “Mom? Mom? MOM! You awake? Come play with us!”
-
I smile every time I look at this hand-painted ceramic tile. (Looks just like me, doesn’t it?) Homemade gifts are awesome!
-
Favorite fragrance in the whole wide world? The top of my newborn babies’ heads.
-
Best bouquet? Freshly picked dandelions, in a Tweety Bird sippy cup.
-
Much-loved ritual? Reading bedtime stories until my sons surrendered to the Sand Man.
-
Most important piece of motherly advice: Follow your own yellow brick road, but remember that there’s no place like home.
-
Best memory: Every moment is priceless. Pain or pleasure, celebration or sorrow, it’s all part of being a mommy.
-
If I could choose any two people in the world to be my sons, I’d always choose the ones I was blessed with.
I tag every mother and child that wants to play.
Mmm that was lovely, and I so agree about the most wonderful smell.
🙂
Glad it resonated with you.
Awww. Those are very nice motherly things. I can’t wait until someday when it’s my turn. :o)
When it *is* your turn, I’d love to volunteer for an auntie role, if it’s open. I’m guessing others of us would happily join THAT party. 🙂
Melodye, that is really beautiful!
Have a great mother’s day!
Thank you for saying that. I’m such a softie.
Happy Mother’s Day to you, too.
Melodye–I loved this! I should’ve made my response a Mother’s Day one–wonderful idea! I hope you’re having a lovely Mother’s Day. My kids painted me a vase and a coffee cup at Color Me Mine for Mother’s Day, and Bailey made me a hot plate holder at school–and you’re right…homemade gifts are the best. I have framed their art and hang it in my apartment, because really…what else is lovelier than the memories of the days when they created them?
Ah….thanks for posting that…I hope your day is as lovely as you are.
xo,
Cathy
Treasures, all of ’em — the kids *and* the handmade gifts.
And your kind words, Cathy, made me cry. In a good way. 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day?

Re: Ah, Madre de Dios, Te Amo, Melodye. {}

pps. =My= 2 dream girls gifted =me= with the DREAM GIRLS DVD. Yay for loud hints. {}

Melodye, as if I needed one more thing to turn on my perpetual water works today, your words above have just reduced me to a weepy, wonky, woeful mess. Yegads, woman. You know the way to make me cry. Not out of cruelty. Out of honesty and sensitivity and memory and sensory appeal. Not many writers can trigger the aroma of a baby’s soft-cleansed bottom but you just did. Never underestimate the power of the odor of powders and Desitin and baby shampoo and warm bath water. That is what comes to mind when I think of those sweet and magical babyhood days.
To all of us who are mothers, to all of us who are daughters, to all of you who are children, to all of you who are parents, my wish is that every day of your life is a reminder of the joys of life. Precious they are, indeed. {}
Happy Mama’s Day, Melodye. Your two babies hit the jackpot when the stork sent you their way.
What?
You mean.. storks aren’t real?
Never mind. ;>
-Pamela (you should have seen MY eyes when Roni S. told me in 5th grade where =I= came from; I said “NO WAY. NOT MY PARENTS. NO WAY.”) ;>
note from Pamela: deleted and re-posted after I caught a typo on my fishing pole {}
Storks *are real…aren’t they?!?
Thanks for your sweet response to my post, Pamela. I love, love, LOVE my sons! Can you tell? 😉
Melodye, thanks for sharing your mother moments with us. You put such a big smile on my face that now I, too, look like the picture on your ceramic tile :]
Hee! We should all be that happy, yes?
Hope you had a wonderful weekend, too.
Awwww… those are some very precious memories indeed. A little late to the party as usual, but I wanted to wish you a very happy Mother’s Day, Melodye. I hope your day was special.
Thanks! It certainly was. How was your Mother’s Day brunch?
I’m so glad you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Brunch turned out pretty well! I think the French Toast went over well!!!
Hey, Melodye!

I had a relaxing Mother’s Day, which was nice! Hubby even took care of supper. *grin*

How beautifully put, Melodye!! YOu’re sweet disposition shines through in your words and your picture!!! I know you are a delightful, caring, attentive mother!
Aw, thanks, Katherine. That’s the most wonderful compliment imaginable. Being a mom is a sacred trust and wonderful joy, isn’t it? I’m sure your kids feel the same way about you.
