Exciting news, everybody: Sara Zarr’s going to be making a guest appearance in The Authors’ Tent! We’ve been having fun with backstage preparations, and I can’t wait to spotlight this multi-talented author.
Would you like to be among the first to read Sara’s upcoming novel, ONCE WAS LOST? If so, I’ve got just the contest for you.
Rules: Propose a question for the Lightning Round* of our interview, and I’ll enter your name in my drawing. While I can’t guarantee that your submission will be used in the actual interview, everyone who proposes a Lightning Round question in the comments thread (below) is eligible to win.
Contest Deadline: All entries must be submitted by 8:00 a.m. (PDT) on Tuesday, September 22nd.
Grand Prize: I’ll mail my Advance Review Copy (ARC) to the winner.
*Check out previous Authors’ Tent interviews (including the every-popular but oh-so-unpredictable Lightning Round questions) here and here.

Oh, I SO want this book!
Hmm–favorite guilty-pleasure reading genre?

Great question, Jenn! I’ve entered your name in the drawing.

Pamela, sweetie, stop pulling your own tail! 🙂
Lightning Round questions are fun! They’re quick and easy, and don’t require advance thought or editing.
Examples:
Matzoh Balls or dumplings?
Palm trees or Ponderosa pines?
So…wanna submit an entry?

Oh he hooo hoh! Melodye, I swear on a stack of Bruce music: I didn’t see this comment to me until seconds ago! I posted my entry a few minutes ago in total haste because I thought the deadline was midnight tonight, your time! I ran from the car to the computer, nearly tripping on the accident Charlie left for us in the entryway. That dog has issues with the bathroom. Just like his Mom. {}
Just thought you would find it cosmically funny that my contest question for Sara was in the Judaic choo-choo train of thought. ;>
Matzoh balls,
Pamela
Melodye Shore
You’re hilarious! And that you’re willing to swear on a stack of your beloved Bruce’s music…well! How could anyone question you after that?! 🙂

Melodye, I love that you’re doing this series of interviews, and really look forward to reading Sara’s newest book.
Here’s my question: When you wrote, at any point did you try to imagine an audience or ideal reader, and if so, what sort of relation to faith did this reader/readers have?
Melodye Shore
Thanks, Jeannine! I was curious about this very question! It’s a bit deeper than most Lightning Round prompts, but that’s certainly okay. I’ll pass it along to Sara. Consider yourself entered. 🙂
Melodye Shore
Jeannine–I’ll post Sara’s answer to your question next Tuesday…watch this space! http://newport2newport.livejournal.com/201857.html

Loved this book!
Melodye Shore
I know you have a copy already, but would you like to submit a lightning round question for the contest anyway? You could pass along your winnings if I draw your name…
kbaccellia
Sure, that sounds great!
My question: Your character’s struggle with her church family is so real. Did you ever struggle with this in your own faith as a teen?
Melodye Shore
K-Sara’s going to weigh in on your question when she enters The Authors’ Tent next week!

Very cool! Sara nailed this right on the dot. Curious how she answers question!

I really want the book, but I’m not sure what to ask … thinking … gorgeous cover is distracting me – love the covers of all her books … still thinking … ok, here’s an odd question that might be kind of fun.
Favorite school lunch?
I’ve heard that school lunch is vastly improved from when I went to school, so if she wants, she can answer for when she was in school and for now (if she’s eaten there while doing school visits).
Melodye Shore
The cover is, indeed, gorgeous. It matches the theme very well.
School lunches–fantastic Lightning Round topic, and I’d love to hear what she says!
Melodye Shore
Wheee–lookie here! 🙂

Oooh, Sara Zarr’s books are magnificent. Lightning-round question, hmmm… Do you have critique partners, and if so how did you know they’d be a good match for you?
Melodye Shore
Thanks, Phoebe–wonderful question! This might require a lengthier answer than most Lightning Round questions require, perhaps, but I’m guessing lots of people would enjoy hearing her response. I’ll drop your name into the proverbial hat. 🙂
Melodye Shore
Hey Phoebe, Sara’s in the Authors’ Tent today. Stop by to see how she answered your question, if you’d like…

Only Zeus knows if lightning’s headed your way, Pamela. 🙂
But I can say with a certainty that you’re entered in the contest. Thanks–fun question!
