Well hello there! It’s so nice to “see” you in the LJ neighborhood. I absolutely agree with you on both your points. And I hope you don’t mind that I’ve added you to my group of friends. 🙂

I think my favorite moment — and I’m pretty sure it was in the second movie — is when Gollum is talking to himself, trying to exorcise (at least temporarily) his “bad” half, and he repeats the phrase “Go away… and NEVER come BACK!” The expressions on that computer-generated face were just brilliant.

I so much liked what was done with the character in the LotR movies, that I did an “homage” to Gollum in several issues of my “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” comics about six or seven years ago. One of the plot threads involved one of the Turtles encountering large, sentient (albeit vicious) mutant lizards who talk very much in Gollum-speak… as you can see in these three panels:

Melodye, I am honored that you chose to do so. Thanks! — PL

Oh my goodness, I’m in awe! I’m such a TMNT fan, as are my sons. They’re gonna flip when they see this panel…and on my blog, no less! *fans self*

        Recovers long enough to add:

I, too, love that scene! It’s so symbolic…and on so many levels it speaks to me.
