  1. Melodye, I’m so glad you’re giving yourself time to play this week! I’m not being very creative, but I’m getting to play with my kids and that just makes me so happy. Here’s to a few special gifts to ourselves. xo 🙂

  2. Your journal pages always look so pretty! I tried to do some drawing today, but really, I have no artistic gifts at all (but I can arrange flowers very prettily!) so I am afraid I can’t join you. And you also seem to need a lot of things to be able to do those journals? Like paper and such.
If I could have one talent I don’t have, it would be to be able to paint and draw.

    • You can do what I am doing (because I can’t draw either) and that’s a glue book – where you cut out pictures/words and arrange them, like you would flowers, into a pleasing picture.

    • Well, that’s not my page, but it’s beautiful, isn’t it? (I linked to the person who created it.)

I have no artistic talents whatsoever. Seriously, that’s why I choose to collage most of the work I do. Old books and magazines…those are my inspiration/pictures sources.

Do you have construction paper on hand? Any stiff paper would do. Or you can use regular paper, in a pinch. You can use pens, pencils, crayons, markers…whatever suits your fancy. But it doesn’t have to be fancy!!! The process = the thing. Playtime. Make pretend. You know, like when we were younger….let’s bring that inner child back!

      • On YouTube last night I saw the cutest little mini books made from flattened out toilet paper rolls!

I’ve been working on my cover for my vision book and it’s almost done. I’m trying to get brave enough to doodle at the edges but I’m not sure.

I do understand the thing about layers of color now.

        • “…the thing about layers of color…”???? I’m not sure I get it. Would you, could you please Help me understand!

Wow, Susan, you’ve dedicated yourself to this, haven’t you? I’m not as well-researched as you are, but I’m getting a bit more adventuresome. And learning lots. Funny, isn’t it, how we can sometimes learn very important lessons in unexpected classrooms?

          • Not dedicated but it is what I am doing now, while I avoid writing. Or take a break. Or try to figure out what I am doing.

It seems to be my process with something new – dive into it 150%, immerse myself in all aspects, then back off to a normal amount.

Layers came to me when I was looking at the first backgrounds I did of just solid color. They looked boring. So on one of them I did another acrylic wash and the two colors blended together, one on top of the other and I thought, ah, layers! It made it easier for me to forgive all the blecky backgrounds I made because I put another layer of color over the top and hopefully help it.

I don’t have very good color sense of what ones look good together so there will be much experimenting in my future…though I did buy a color wheel.

          • “It seems to be my process with something new – dive into it 150%, immerse myself in all aspects, then back off to a normal amount.”

Yeah, I’m kinda like that, too.

And lol, you’d be surprised to know how many watercolors I used on that Christmas page before “settling” on that (um?) red.
