Whew, I’ve been writing my heart out these past few weeks! I’ve written lots of pages and chapters, and I’m getting ever closer to The End. But I’m taking a break for New Year’s Eve–it’s party time, don’t you think?
I’m planning to continue my 2008 theme into the new year, but I’m adding another one for 2009. More on that when New Year’s Day actually arrives! But while we’re ringing out the old year, I thought it might be fun to make some predictions about next year, courtesy of my new Magic 8-Ball.
Go ahead: Offer up your wildest wonderings to the Magic 8-Ball’s discerning powers! Write your question in the comments section, and I’ll post the answer exactly as it appears in the Magic 8-Ball’s blue Window of Fate.
Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! I’m predicting 2009 will be our best year yet!

Okay, I’ve got a question for you: will I actually bring pages to read at PFL next Thursday (as promised weeks ago)?
I’ll wait for the 8-ball’s answer before I tell you what my word for 2009 is …
Melodye Shore
Magic 9-Ball says: YES
Melodye says: YES
I’m eagerly awaiting your word for 2009. I’ve got my prediction at the ready…I think I know what it is.
cartazon
If the Magic 8-Ball says it’s so, it must be true!
So my word for 2009 is Discipline. It’s not an attractive word (until one starts thinking on very deep levels about it) but I can’t think of any more useful guiding light for an interminable procrastinator like myself.
Is that close at all to what you thought?
Melodye Shore
Well, I actually thought you might choose “integrity.” I made a commitment, and you were wondering if I’d stick to it. But “discipline” and “integrity” are two sides of the same coin, aren’t they? I like the deeper meaning you’re suggesting.
And yes, the Magic 8-Ball doesn’t lie. Sometimes the Window of Fate’s kinda cloudy, but if you look closely…
jeannineatkins
Oh, I was envying that magic eight ball! You’re so kind to share.
So… will Melodye’s dream editor love her memoir? Are you feeling brave enough to ask? Only if you want… no pressure!
Melodye Shore
Melodye says: YES, I’m brave enough to ask.
Magic 8-Ball’s answer: YES!!! (Exclamation marks provided by me.)
Looks like the 8-Ball’s on a roll. Would you like to ask a question for yourself?
jeannineatkins
Yay! I like this 8-Ball. And your bravery. So now I guess I should step up. Will the novel I’m working on find its dream editor?
Yikes! Think you were braver than me….
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: SIGNS POINT TO YES.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Perhaps bravery should be our byword for 2009!)
Melodye Shore
The Magic 8-Ball’s answer: MY SOURCES SAY NO.
Bah! I’m thinking the Magic 8-Ball’s “sources” need to be fact-checked. You too?
lizjonesbooks
Hey, magic eight ball– those two things I’m waiting on– will they happen?
Word of the year: Survival.
*shudder*
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: BETTER NOT TELL YOU NOW.
Word for next year: Thrive. *hugs*
lizjonesbooks
Argh, that cagey 8 ball!
Thrive, you too! I like that better…
Here’s hoping.
Melodye Shore
Hoping and working and thriving together…that’ll be our M.O. for 2009.
lizjonesbooks
I think that’s a great plan– and there’s strength in numbers!
lizjonesbooks
I already know the answer to that in this house– NOT a chance!
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: WITHOUT A DOUBT.
Are you perhaps planning to hire a housekeeper? 😛

O Magic 8 Ball, will this next year continue to deliver good tidings of great joy? I could use a little more joy :0
Thank you, and happy new year 🙂
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: YES DEFINITELY SO
I’m not one to recite Scripture as support for my own views, but this verse (which just happens to be one of my favorites) seems to confirm the 8-Ball’s prediction: “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalms 30:5
So YES! Continued (and new) tidings of great joy for all of us in the new year!

Will I sell the gnomes ms in 2009? (They made me ask.)
Happy new year, Melodye!
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: OUTLOOK GOOD.
Yay!! I’m loving this 8-Ball’s point of view… 🙂
Happy New Year to you and those rascally, loveable gnomes.

Oh Magic 8 Ball. My fate and happiness for 2009 rest roundly in your hands. Will I ever be a size 10 again (but I’m willing to settle for 12) once this baby is born? (and by again, I mean, soon.) LOL!
Word for 2009: YES!
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: ASK AGAIN LATER.
(How many weeks do we need to wait to pose this question again?)
New mothers always look radiant and beautiful, no matter what their clothing size! I can’t wait to see pictures of you holding your healthy new baby.
poolhallace
That’s better than a NO! The 8ball undoubtedly knows that I ate my way thru the Mall of America 😉
Melodye Shore
LOL!! I hope you enjoyed every minute and every bite!

As long as we are dreaming … Magic 8-Ball will 2009 see my MG novel, NED, take the publishing world by storm?
My word for 2009 is SUBMIT…SUBMIT…SUBMIT!!
Happy New Year, Melodye!! I hope your year ahead is filled to overflowing with the wondrous gifts of nature, good health, and (of course) book contracts!
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: OUTLOOK GOOD!!!
I like the idea of “SUBMIT” very much. It’s definitely a positive step forward in your writing process, and I love that you’re ready for it! Still, the word itself connotes a somewhat subservient relationship, doesn’t it? Maybe we could consider using an alternative, at least within our own circle of writers? For example, we might say, “In 2009, Sharon’s going to OFFER her manuscripts to agents and editors for their consideration…” And by extension, “In 2009, agents and editors are going to OFFER Sara contracts for large sums of money.” 🙂
Happy New Year, my friend. I wish you all love and loveliness in the New Year.

Magic eight ball: Will I ever stay on top of LJ entries?
Happy new year to you, Melodye!
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball answers: OUTLOOK GOOD
I’ve wondered the same thing myself. I’m grateful that our friendships continue, even during the times when our LJ presence is sporatic.
Happy New Year to you, too! XO

Me, too!

Happy New Year, Melodye! I hope 2009 brings you everything you could ever want and then some. I hope you enjoyed your evening ringing in the New Year!
Okay… Dear Magic 8-Ball… “Will I manage to pull off the miracle I need to pull off in regard to finishing out school this semester?”
Happy New Year, my friend. 🙂
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: CONCENTRATE AND ASK AGAIN.
I think the shortcut answer is YES. But…whoa. May I also add that this is the first time that particular answer popped up in the Window of Fate? Too funny. 🙂
Happy New Year to you, too, Kevin. I’m so glad to call you friend.
java_fiend
Concentrate and ask again? lol… that’s kinda scary! I’m not quite sure what sort of omen that might be… especially since that was the first time it came up! Yikes!
I’m so glad to be able to call you a friend as well. You’re definitely a bright spot in my life. 🙂
Melodye Shore
I take it as a positive sign. You get an extra opportunity, which is always a good thing, right?
java_fiend
Indeed it is! And thinking about it, I do have that extra opportunity this semester!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
Dear Magic 8 ball,
Is this the year?
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: YOU MAY RELY ON IT!
Melodye says (after reading your fabulous icon): What if you do?!
Happy New Year to you, too, Laura! I hope 2009 brings you lots of hibiscus showers.
juliakarr
Is it too late to ask the magic 8 ball a question? If not – My question is… will my answer come soon?
Happy New Year & I’ve almost got my word for the year! Yay!
Melodye Shore
Magic 8-Ball says: YES, DEFINITELY.
🙂
juliakarr
Oh good! I hope it’s the answer I want! :^D
