~ The Statue of Liberty was a big part of my childhood. Field trips, class trips, and my blue and white rhinestone (almost diamonds) statue of liberty necklace! ~ my favorite piece of bling jewelry all through school!
Thanks, Melodye. We were able to see fireworks over the lake from a safe distance Sunday night (Canada Day) and Echo was fine. It was a perfect night, warm and clear, with an almost-full moon.
We took a ferry boat out to Ellis Island, and when we tucked around the back of Lady Liberty, I was awed by the difference in perspective. I was enthralled by the size of her feet and broken chains, was overcome by the symbolism imbued in her right foot, lifting itself away from the shackles, stepping free of bondage. It’s not something we see, as a rule, and had we not taken that boat, I doubt I would’ve known about it to this day.
Great photo!
The first word that popped into my head when I saw this people unfolding here: Home
Re: Great photo!
An entire continent separates my house and yours. And yet, this is home for both of us. Yours and mine, despite the miles between us. xoxo

Happy Fourth of July!
Same to you, Barb! I’m wishing for lots of sparklers and watermelon. 🙂
(Also…I hope your sweet puppy doesn’t get frightened by all the fireworks.)

Ack, please forgive me! I keep forgetting you’re Canadian. I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday. 🙂
Perfect photo for today.
She’s so public, so instantly recognizable, but she speaks to our most intimate stories.
May the light of freedom and the memories of those that gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedom we have be everlasting.
Thanks for sharing this prayer, Papadan. I think we’d be well-served to contemplate the meaning of ‘freedom.’
This is a different view from the one we’re used to. It’s nice to get a different perspective. Happy 4th of July.

Thank you, Neighbor! I hope you’re enjoying a wonderful day, as well.
Knowing that this is the first thing my grandparents saw when they arrived in this country makes me so proud.
