Fearless. My older son works for Microsoft. He has a very creative job, and he brushes shoulders with many talented people. In his latest website launch, Fearless, he profiles his all-time favorite movie producer, David Lynch, and other courageous souls. Tres cool, don’t you think? (Go on, take a look. Indulge this proud mama.)
Frippery. The latest issue of SisterDivas Magazine is now available online. In All that Glitters, I dish with my hairdresser about holiday beauty.
Flowers! Red camellias and snow-white azaleas are blooming in my backyard (see photos).
Fine-tuning. I was on overload this weekend, blown back by an (over)abundance of election-related advertisements, editorials, and blogs. I needed to unplug from politics for a little while, and I know many of you felt the same. This morning I feel rested, optimistic, electrified.
A healthy democracy is noisy—oftentimes cacophonous. Sadly, we’ve grown accustomed to complacent silence. If we want to see the changes we’re hoping for, we might need to tune up our vocal chords and retrain our ears.
Finally. These quotations inspire me always, but I’m counting on them to help me stay centered today. Also, yoga, which is where I’m headed next.
The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference. –Elie Wiesel
[W]hatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. –Philippians 4:8
Rested, optimistic, and electrified?!
AWESOME. π
It is, isn’t it?
The passionate Scorpio is shining through. π
“Tune up our vocal chords and retrain our ears.”
I LOVE that. I’ve seen some of the attitude of “I can’t wait for the election to be over so I can stop paying attention”. Ack! No! We can, perhaps, relax a little, but I want to keep paying attention.
Oh me too!
I got a little overwhelmed by the, uh, liveliness of it all. I think maybe some of us have forgotten that this is GOOD noise — the robust music of of a healthy democracy in action.
You have every right to be proud, Melodye!
I always love your writing π
Oh, that’s music to my ears today. Thank you!!!
Thanks for posting your granddaughter’s poem. She writes so well! Her confident attitude shines through her words. She’s a role model for the rest of us.
Fearless! It looks very cool and you should be a proud momma!
Happy election day, Melodye. (I don’t think I’ll get much done today–I’m so jiggly.)
Did you read the profile about the woman who recycles car tires? Now THAT’s an inspiring story!
Happy election day to you, too, Lorraine. It feels like all the best holidays rolled into one, doesn’t it? Cue the song, “Anticipation…” π

so true!!
My camellias don’t bloom until February! How’d you get your lovelies to blossom already?
I do love that Wiesel quote. π
I have some that bloom in February, but this variety blooms in November and December. Very nice to have them around this time of year, no? I’m too lazy to dig out the plant tags, or I’d tell you what they are.
Mine look so similar! The buds are closed tight though, LOL.
Did you see this yet?
LOL! I was suffering from that very syndrome. The antidote (unplugging, unwinding) was painful, but very very effective.
That web site is terrific, you should be a proud Mama!! I didn’t know that he worked for Microsoft … John sometimes handles application delivery networking for Microsoft through F5. Did you ever send him John’s info?
A healthy democracy is noisy
I totally agree and with the young leading the way America finally got it right!!
Isn’t it fun? And to think…he launches a new one (new concept, new content) ALL THE TIME. I’m worn out, just thinking about all that writing. π
I don’t know that I did, Sharon. He was in such a state of flux at the time (as was John), so I think I probably put it aside and forgot about it. He’s deep into wedding planning, and working 80-some hours a week, so I think it might be better to hold off for a little while. At least until after the wedding, that is, which is in mid-January…
