Here’s a question for SoCal friends, cross-posted for

Rachelmanija and I were talking the other day: would anyone local be interested in a kind of “Greet, Meet, and Eat” get together? If so, where do you live (so we can find somewhere central, assuming anyone is interested) and do you know of a kewl place that has easy access or parking and doesn’t cost a month’s pay to eat at? I was thinking maybe later this month or sometime next month?”

I’m in — how about you?

I’m also considering a one-day registration at SCBWI-LA. Even though I’m currently writing grown-up books, I’m always open to learning more about writing and publishing. Which day do you recommend for writers in my situation? Also, since all work and no play makes for super-dull writing, I hope you’ll count me in for any social event you’re planning. (I’ll have a car…does that increase my social cachet? Just a tiny bit, maybe?)

  1. Just wanted to say….Have fun!! Mindi, Andrea and I had a blast at our meet & greet. We met up at a BORDERS (since we all seem to know the nearest ones…ha) and hten went to eat. Go somewhere with slow service so you dont feel like dorks hanging around for an hour after you’re done! 🙂

    • Thanks, Mandy! I wish the three of you could join us! Great tip about the service…otherwise, we’ll definitely need to leave a huge tip for parking all night in a tow-away zone.

    You bet I’m interested!!! If it’s planned for a Friday or a Saturday, you can count me in! Yay!

  3. I’d love the chance to meet up with some of you! I’m way out in Bakersfield but if I have enough notice, I should be able to come down. 🙂

  4. I’m in too! If everyone is thinking about getting together in LA, I’ll be there Friday and Saturday, but I already have a young adult writers thing on Friday night.

  5. Now I am bumming.
    More than I already was. :{

    I wish I lived near you.
    For more than elbow-rubbing at conferences. {} {} {}

    Doo.

    I think it is a great idea for you to attend National. Have I ever mentioned SCBWI throws a great conference?

    I wish California wasn’t so honking-thunking-plooping far away. (Presuming the starting point is– pointing to heart– right here.)

    -Pamela, blah and blue, crikey cranky but I don’t want to come here and kvetch

  6. We were just looking at the website today. There are so many great workshops!! Please please please say you’ll give a full detailed report after the conference – about the writing and publishing AND about all the social events 🙂
