Looking for peace

If you would have a mind at peace, and a heart that cannot harden,
Go find a door that opens wide upon a lovely garden.

What do you like to do when you need a temporary retreat from the world? When I’m feeling sad or restless, or when I can’t seem to make sense of things, I like to go for a walk or spend some time in my garden.

My mind’s still reeling about the deadly violence at Virginia Tech; but for at least a little while, I found peace in these rainbows of ranunculus. I discovered these Flower Fields in the rolling hills of Carlsbad, alongside the Pacific Ocean and just north of San Diego.

Here’s a cheerful bit of news, which you might appreciate about now: It’s free-cone day at Ben & Jerry’s.
