I’m not one whit interested in spectator sports, not even the Super Bowl.
But oooh, check out these LiveCam images of a mama hummingbird and her hatchling! If I didn’t have so many chores on my list, I’d watch them all day long.
Remember the magical day I discovered a hummingbird nest in my backyard? It was so much fun to watch those babies grow! Our Mama hummingbird abandoned her nest long ago, and over time, its walnut shape was flattened by devil winds and torrential rains. And yet, it’s still held in place by spider silk–a lingering reminder of the tiny miracles it once held.
Ohhhhh, lovely.
I’ll bet your kids would enjoy watching the mama hummingbird feed her baby!
I thought the football foolery was over weeks ago. Nope, sigh.
But the hummers? Now that is cool!
We’re of similar minds.
I still love these little guys… Thanks for the reminder & the smile!
Thanks for stopping by to share these hummingbird memories! Even after almost two years, they still make me all swoony.
What a sweet picture! They’re so gorgeous. They’re like the embodiment of a sigh.

Oh, thank you! That’s such a beautiful expression of my feelings.

I’m not going to watch the game, but I’m gonna sit in front of the tv with my notebook…to watch the commercials! Should get some good writing in during the boring parts.
Hope you got lots of writing done!
By the way, you might like watching Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl (including the kitty show at halftime):

Lovely picture!
And join the family with sports. My oldest ended up on the front page of the paper this week–they did a charity basketball game at his school to send money to Haiti, and all the kids in the picture are cheering loudly–and he’s hunched down with his hands over his ears! Uh, he heard a lot about that one at school…
Seriously, I can get excited about my local high school football team or even be mildly invested in the Razorbacks (or whatever college I’m associated with at the time) because they represent me in some way. But pro sports? I feel no reason to favor one team over another, and um, I can’t say I have an excessive love of sports to watch the game just for fun.
I think it’s fun to cheer for friends and family. But like you, I’m not a big fan of professional sports.
LOL about your son’s picture. But as for that charity project–now THAT’S a sports event I could easily get behind!

I would so much rather watch hummingbirds than football.
My husband is as ho hum re the game as I am, so we can go about our ordinary day. Otherwise I might have to join the Superbowl knitting group at the local yarn shop.
Knitting seems to me the perfect Sunday afternoon activity. Social, yet cozy. Productive, but relaxing. I hope you had fun!

oh thank you. I forwarded that link to my mother in law. We miss the hummingbirds in the winter!
You’re so welcome. Hummingbirds are the perfect antidote for winter…the very harbinger of spring.

I cannot believe that was already two years ago. Wow. Seems like just yesterday….
Their beauty is timeless, though.
My heart lifts every time I see a hummingbird flit by…it harkens me back to “my” little hummingbird nest. Like you, I’m left wondering where the time (and those hummingbirds) went.

Awwwwwwww… too sweet. I too remember discovering that little nest of hummingbird babies in my backyard. I still see them buzzing around here from time to time. I like to think they’re stopping bye to say “Hi” but who knows with hummingbirds… lol…
As I remember, yours were teenagers–almost ready to fly–when I discovered “my” hummingbird’s nest. How cool, that they still hover in your backyard! Did you take a peek at the LiveCam video? It’s incredible, being able to watch mama hummingbird and her hatchling 24/7!
I love the wildlife cams… I really enjoyed a cam they had in an eagle’s nest last year. That was seriously amazing watching them grow. Such beautiful creatures!!!

Those hatchlings look bigger than actual grown hummingbirds somehow!
LOL, objects on your computer screen are *much* smaller than they appear. If you click on the link about watching them grow, you’ll see how big they (and the nest) actually are–as indicated bv the markings on a measuring tape.
Sweet babies!
Did you check out the LiveCam? Oh my goodness, talk about *sweet*! That mama keeps flitting to and from the nest, wings whirring, with food for her tiny hatchling, who’s growing bigger and more vigorous by the day. Infinitely watchable!
