  1. Oooh, yes, I love that. Thanks for sharing.

One of my favorite scenes is at the end of Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring. Frodo realizes what carrying the ring really means.

Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil.

And then, the scene on the lake, when Sam reaches him but Frodo is already floating across the lake. I just love that scene, and how Sam doesn’t give up and let his friend go alone, even though he can’t swim.

Frodo: Go back, Sam! I’m going to Mordor alone.
Sam: Of course you are, and I’m coming with you!

We all need a Sam or two on this writing journey, I know that for sure.

    • Lord of the Rings is rich with metaphors about good/evil, strength and courage. Thanks for this reminder. And you’re right, of course, we all need to surround ourselves with at least one Sam (preferably several).

  2. Simply Ballroom. As much as it’s a farce and a parody, it’s so rich with meaning. And my line that I absolutely adore is “A vivir con miedo is a vivir a medias,” which roughly translates to, “A life lived in fear is a life half lived.”
