While I was away doing research, our hummingbird hatchlings kept right on growing. In just five days, they’ve developed longer beaks, bigger bodies, and thicker plumage. As you can see, they’re almost full-grown, and they’re stretching their nest to its limits.
Another homecoming treat: The citrus blossoms are finally opening in the orange tree where Mama Hummingbird built their home. The morning air is filled with their heavenly fragrance.
Are the hummingbird babies flying yet? I’m not sure, but I’ll let you know.
What beauties! Look at the irridescent plumage!
I’ve got updates this morning…their irridescent plumage is amazing!
Oh, they’re so cute! How neat to see spring in full bloom like that. And I just love orange trees. All my favorite colors together with such pretty blossoms. Thanks for sharing these, Melodye!
I love orange trees, too. I have fond memories of playing in orange groves. But I’ve never seen hummingbird hatchlings ’til now. I’m so glad we got to share them.
OMG, I can’t stand it. These pictures are amazing. And they are so cute. They are going to think you are their mother : )
Yes, they’re going to follow Melodye around wherever she goes!
Wouldn’t that be something? I’d be the star of my own Disney-ish movie.
I wouldn’t mind that one little bit! I hope when they fly away they still come back to visit.
They’re so lucky. They get to wake up to the smell of orange juice! And their bed looks extra soft and feathery. This is a five star bird hotel!
Oh, what a great image! Location, location, location…lol.
Welcome home, Melodye!
And look at those colorful feathers coming in. What a comfy little nest, and I can just smell those heavenly blossoms. Mmmm…
Thank you, Lorraine. I had a wonderful, very productive trip.
Check out today’s pictures…It doesn’t seem they want to leave anytime soon.
“Feed me already!”
They’re growing so fast. Bet they’ll be flying away soon. Tell them to send you a postcard once in a while.
I hope they come back for frequent visits, and that they bring their own little ones with them.
Wow! I cannot believe how big they’ve gotten!
“They grow up so fast…”
They grow incredibly fast, don’t they?
Even today, they look bigger than they do in this picture.
They’re so fluffy and iridescent.
Sigh.
And I can almost smell those blossoms.
Thank you.
Thank YOU for sharing these miracles with me.
Oh my! Look how big they’ve grown in just a few short days! It’s amazing!
I love the smell of orange blossoms. Thanks for sending a bit of spring my way…it’s going to take forever to melt all this #%%# snow
My heart melts when I see the hummingbirds. Not that it’s frozen, but you know what I mean, right?
Holy crap, they’re adorable!
*squee!*
Squee is right! These bird babies are too cute for words!
