I miss Sugar Daddies. The WG and I just had an almost heated conversation about which was better – Daddies or Babies. He liked that sugary coating on the Babies. I loved the smooth caramel on a stick.
He recognized the BB Bats, as well. I’d never heard of those.
Of course, the absolute jewel in the caramel crown must be Thortons Special Toffee. I don’t think you can get it in the States but it is (was?) a melt in your mouth, buttery…well, the only word I can think of probably isn’t suitable for this venue…however, let us say that after having a piece, your tongue sighed, shuddered and begged for a cigarette.
Oh my gosh–Slow Pokes! Soooo yummy. And Charleston Chews…yanked on your loose teeth, but so, so good.
I loved that Slow Pokes lasted almost all afternoon. We didn’t have a lot of money back then, so the longevity factor beat out taste when we made our final selections. 🙂
SUGAR DADDIES!(all I recognize besides the gum)
Don’t your teeth ache, just thinking about those dense bites of sugar?
Right now I am craving Rainbow Twizzlers!

Re: Sugar Daddies II
I’m with you, emjae. The sugary coating = gilding the lily.
BB bats were some of my favorite candies–not for the taste (banana, pfftooy!)–but for the fact that they lasted so long.
Wishing you a day filled with sweetness, too.

Ha ha ha ha! *wipes coffee from keyboard* I just about fell off my chair.
And now I’m having…cravings.
Ack! I love BBBats and Kits! And Big Hunk, and Bit O’Honey….
Classic candy rocks!
We have an old-fashioned candy shoppe near us…it’s so much fun to poke around in the wooden bins and rediscover the treats from my childhood.
Whoever took that photo must surely share our love for sweet, stretchy, long-lasting candies. 🙂
Do you remember Slow Pokes? They were like Sugar Daddys, a carmel lollipop that took forever to eat. I loved them. And Charleston Chews too.
