  1. Peace, love and happiness!

BTW, I just wanted to say hello as I am back. This is Vanessa…you may remember me as sunday_best on here. I missed my friends page and miss scrawling more personal entries that I can’t always enjoy doing in my own blog. Hope you’ve been well. How’s your writing going?

    • Vanessa!!! I’ve often wondered how you’re doing, and it makes my heart happy to see you here again. Glad you re-introduced yourself (with your new username) so I can look more closely for your posts.

I’ve been doing very well, thanks for asking. Scroll back a few entries to my post about Abagail & the hummingbirds…it explains a little about my writing progress. 🙂

      • It was an odd time for me. A part of me felt like I was too old to use my LJ but another part of me felt as if I’ll never be too old to write – and there are certain reasons why I had to be back.

I was curious to know how your writing progress has been too – and I’ll be here along for the ride to wish you well!

        • Too old?!?! Hush, now. I’m not “too old,” nor is anybody else with a hankering to share their ideas in community.

I’m glad–very glad–that you’re back, and that you’re along for the ride, wild as it might be. 🙂

  2. ST:TOS

I don’t remember much about 1969, except for the fact that “Star Trek: The Original Series” finished its three-season run that year, much to my dismay.

Oh, and I was in high school, and hating just about every minute of it. — PL

See above for my comment about the ’60s in general. And as for Star Trek, I wasn’t even aware of that phenomenon ’til I was well into adulthood. That’s how limited my world view really was. 🙂

And yeah, very few of us enjoyed our high school days, especially not in the same way Hollywood would have us believe they unfolded.

If not for my best friend at the time, who clued me in to the existence of ST:TOS (which, when I think about it, was kind of weird… given that ST:TOS was on NBC, and we only got ONE channel on the TV in our house… and that was the NBC affiliate from Schenectady, NY… I really must have been out of it!), I would have missed a valuable and formative experience.

“And yeah, very few of us enjoyed our high school days, especially not in the same way Hollywood would have us believe they unfolded.”

For me, I loathed it pretty much from my first day to my last day. In fact, I clearly recall that the first thing I wrote in high school, on my first day there, was an essay assigned by my new English teacher, and I chose to write about how much I already hated high school. As I recall, she was aghast, and said to me “But young people like you should be filled with “joi de vivre”!

Looking back, I can see now that she had a point… but my high school (like many, I guess) was NOT a hotbed of joyful life for anyone not in the mainstream.

And maybe not even for those IN the mainstream. — PL
